ARTIST SUPPORT


Folsom Patrons Of The Arts supports local artists in numerous ways including sponsoring art competitions, education programs and most importantly by providing opportunities for artists to showcase their work in gallery showings and events.
 
Exposure: First and foremost Folsom Patrons Of The Arts provides artists with venues to showcase their works through galleries, festivals and competitions.
Education:  Folsom Patrons Of The Arts helps aspiring artist to grow through a mentoring program where seasoned artists council those new to the field. Artists learn art skills as well as critical business and marketing skills to help them survive and thrive in the worlds of fine and commercial arts.
 
Arts Scholarship Program: Folsom Patrons of the Arts, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the Arts in the community, offers the Folsom Patrons Of The Arts Scholarship to local students who demonstrate outstanding achievement in pursuing an education in the Arts. Scholarship recipients are selected not only for their artistic ability, but also for their demonstrated commitment to giving back to the community through their work.  Folsom Patrons Of The Arts Annual Scholarship grants $1,000 to a lucky and talented student from Folsom High School or Folsom Lake High School who has demonstrated interest, drive, dedication and talent in the arts. Deadline for entry for the 2009 scholarship is April 15.

Winners:

In 2010 Folsom Patrons of the Arts awarded scholarships of $1,000.00 each to three lucky and talented winners. All are local Folsom art students and all are on their way to college to further studies in the arts.
 

 
Austin Lillywhite, graduate of Folsom High School, will be attending Brown University Daniel Nickerson, graduate of Folsom High School, will be attending Lewis & Clark College in Oregon Rebecca Scolnick, attending Folsom Lake College

 

 
2009 Scholarship Winners:

Katie Rose Cunin, of Folsom. Cunin, a senior at Folsom High School, has been actively involved in the choral and drama programs at FHS, where she starred in the school's productions of Oklahoma, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Noises Off.  She is well experienced in ballet, having trained and danced for 13 years with the Hawkins School of Performing Arts, Folsom Lake Civic Ballet, Sacramento Ballet, and San Francisco Conservatory of Dance.  She also choreographed Millie and was nominated for a Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance Elly Award.  Achieving a near-perfect GPA, Cunin has excelled in Advanced Placement courses, including French and Environmental Science, was a National Merit Commended Scholar, and was inducted into the National Honor Society.  Outside of the classroom and stage, Cunin won the title of 2008 Miss Sacramento County's Outstanding Teen, and has used her public appearances and contributed several hundred hours of volunteer effort to promote education in performing arts.  She will attend the University of California at Los Angeles in the Fall of 2009, pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Musical Theater.   For her achievements and passion, Folsom Patrons of the Arts has awarded her a one-time scholarship in the amount of $2500.

 Two $500.00 Honorable mention winners were also selected. Tisha Smith and Thomas Matzat.  Both Smith and Matzat are students at Folsom Lake College.  

TIsha Smith, of Eldorado Hills,  (below) is studying studio art and art history, specializes in painting and drawing, and purses interests in history and anthropology.  She is a member of FLC's S.O.D.A. (Student Organization for Developing Art) and aspires to teach art at a community college.  

Thomas Matzat, of Eldorado Hills, (below) specializes in portrait drawing and since 2004 has taken art lessons from local instructor Tamara Ruiz.  He is the president of the Art club at FLC and intends to become an art instructor himself. Both students were awarded scholarships in the amount of $500 each.

Art competitions: Art competition teaches artists young and old to create to an assignment and present their work in a professional manner to help prepare them for the competitive art world.
  "Folsom Focus" Photography Contest:
             
Folsom Focus, Folsom Patrons Of The Arts' annual photography contest challenges photographers in a number of age groups from youth through adulthood to capture images that typify life in Folsom in a number of themed categories.  Enter your photography in the next Folsom Focus.  Entries accepted October 1 – 29, 2010. "Reflections" art competition:
Folsom Patrons Of The Arts is a proud sponsor of the Folsom High School Reflections art competition rewarding each winner with a $100 prize. Folsom High students have excelled in this competition on every level, including two National Awards of Merit in 2007. This is an excellent opportunity for students to express their talent, add to their college portfolios and explore their various artistic talents.

This national PTA competition begins at the local high school level encouraging more than 700,000 students to submit works of art in literature, dance, film/video, music, photography and visual arts. There is no entry fee and in many cases, students also receive help with the cost of their supplies. Entry forms may be obtained at the Folsom High School attendance office.
